Elements of a Sand Dune

Sand dunes are made up of three main elements.

1. A source of sand.  There has to be sand to make a sand dune.

     2. Vegetation such as marram grass to trap the moving sand.  This helps build up the dune.

3. Wind.  This helps move the sand to create the dune.
